The Official History Portsmouth FC Celebrating 125 Years - The Champions Edition
The long-awaited paperback version of the Official History of Portsmouth FC is now available to buy. Last October, a limited edition for the club’s 125th anniversary, of 1,898 hardback copies sold out in days and demand for the revised and updated version is expected to be high.
Featuring some rarely seen photographs and 20 specially commissioned colourised images, this 424-page, compact paperback book is the definitive history of Portsmouth Football Club. Visually stunning, there's something for everyone between its covers.
Book editor Colin Farmery said: “I am really thrilled we have been able to bring out this paperback edition so quickly. We really couldn’t have asked for a more perfect 125th anniversary season on the pitch and I am sure all Pompey fans will want to be able to savour that success in the same critically acclaimed style of the hardback.
Priced at just £25 (+ £3.95 UK postage & packing), the lavishly illustrated book tells the roller-coaster story of the south coast’s most successful club but has also been updated to include the story of last season’s momentous double title-winning season by the men’s and women’s team.
ABOUT THE AUTHORS
The book’s authors are all specialists in their respective eras. Neil Allen is Chief Sports Writer at The News, Steve Bone a local journalist and contributor to the Pompey programme, Johnny Moore is part of the media team at the club, while the late Gerry Spraggs and Mick Comben, both Pompey History Society members, bring to bear their considerable knowledge of the first fifty years of the club’s history.
The team brings Pompey's colourful and sometimes under-appreciated history to life, with a comprehensive, revised and updated statistical analysis, and special features on the great moments and personalities that have shaped the Pompey story.
CHARITY SUPPORT
Sales of the limited-edition hardback book raised £5,000 for Pompey in the Community and this paperback edition is supporting the Pompey History Society charity, particularly its Gerry Spraggs Memorial Fund.
Gerry was one of the authors of the book and a society member, but he sadly died shortly after it was published. To remember him, PHS have set up a fund in his name, which will be used exclusively to purchase or commission choice items to add to the club’s archive.
